Chief James Vuona has been a member of the Shrewsbury Fire Department for 25 years and spent his entire career as a firefighter in town. He joined the department in 1993 as a firefighter and EMT before being promoted to captain in 2002, and chief in July 2010.
Chief Vuona has an associate’s degree in fire science from Quinsigamond Community College, a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and a master’s degree in public administration in fire science from Anna Maria College. He also holds numerous training certificates in various areas of fire science, has attended programs at the National Fire Academy, and has served as an instructor at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.
The chief has lived in Shrewsbury for most of his life.
Deputy Chief Bruce Card joined the Shrewsbury Fire Department in 1976 and has spent his entire career with the department. He was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief in February 2016 after serving as a Captain for about six years.
Deputy Chief Card holds an associates degree in fire science and numerous certificates from trainings in various areas of fire science and administration. His primary responsibilities as Deputy Chief are fire prevention, which includes overseeing the inspections division, and assisting the Chief in day-to-day operations of the department.
